The steel barrel nut torques to spec for gas tube alignment, then the aluminum collar clamps over it and handles handguard alignment independently - no more timing headaches trying to get everything lined up at once.

For V2, the barrel nut and collar are about 30% longer. More contact area means more friction holding everything in place, so the handguard deflects less under side loads and the whole setup is stiffer. The longer collar also lets the bottom mounting screws run front to back instead of side to side, which handles lateral loads even better.

How to tell V1 from V2: With the handguard off, the V2 barrel nut and collar are noticeably longer. With it on, check the bottom screws - V2 screws run front to back, V1 screws run side to side.

Forward sliding is a problem that's solved with the anti-slide plate, but what about lateral rotation?

The HWK has built in anti-rotation tabs to prevent any kind of rotation.

By combining the anti-slide plate and anti-rotation tabs, the result is a rock solid fit - no matter how hard you run it.
